Schram Vineyards is a full production, working farm winery and tasting room dedicated to creating memorable experiences for our guests through our award-winning wine and beer, commitment to unique offerings and great service. This is an amazing and fun opportunity for the right person who is ready to jump in, learn about the Minnesota wine business and continue Schram’s long standing reputation for excellence in customer service and wine experiences. The Tasting Room Manager’s key responsibility is centered on ensuring smooth day to day operations of the Tasting Room and cultivating a positive work and customer environment. The ideal candidate would have a passion for Minnesota wine. Candidates must be professional, articulate, hard-working and strong leader with the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment. This position requires an outgoing, organized and disciplined individual who can ensure the Tasting Room Associates are set up for success while simultaneously focusing on the customer experience with strong written and oral communication skills. This person must be a go-getter with a can-do attitude to get the job done and a leader who can delegate and manage people well. The TRM will manage and balance time between back-office and front of house duties.

The GM maintains a classy, welcoming environment where customers can learn about the wine/beer, taste and compare wines/beer and purchase wines/beer. Conducts ongoing wine/beer and merchandise training and trains all tasting room staff on sales system and sales techniques in order to increase Tasting Room and retail store sales and provide the best guest experience possible. Maintains staffing levels and sets and communicates the work schedule. Assigns daily operational and merchandising tasks to staff. Manages customer flow so all customers feel welcome and receive excellent service. Oversees daily opening, closing register procedures and operations of the Tasting Room and is responsible and accountable for this area of the business. The GM will also be involved with growth and decision making items related to the Tasting Room operations. The GM will handle personnel management of the Tasting Room, oversee the upkeep of the Tasting Room, and project management on items within the Tasting Room. The candidate will make and implement decisions with guidance from the owners, to keep costs down and to focus on building a growing, lasting and sustainable business. They will also work with the owner on budgeting and financial projections, field daily calls.


  • Oversee a team of Tasting Room Leads and Associates and ensure that the needs of the Tasting Room and customers are being met

  • Set and maintain a daily schedule for employees a minimum of one week in advance for two weeks out

  • Maintain food truck and music schedules

  • Enforce all guest policies, ground rules and employee policies

  • Maintain an accurate Tasting Room inventory, including glassware, cleaning supplies and kitchen inventory, this includes over seeing the Bottle Shop is stocked.

  • Assist in apparel and merchandise selection and ordering as well as inventory management

  • Oversee the Schram kitchen by menu planning, working with teams on pairing ideas, new menu items, budgeting, ordering supplies, and training.

  • Control product cost in Tasting Room and continually look for opportunities to be more efficient

  • Create weekly agendas for upper management and ownership including updates and sales recaps

  • Lead Weekly Front of House meetings with leadership to review sales, areas for improvement and delegate project work.

  • Manage daily email intake and communicate effectively within 24 business hours

  • Be the consistent face associated with Schram Vineyards

  • Set the standards for staff in professionalism, cleanliness, knowledge, service and attitude

  • Train all staff initially on our products and service standards and continue education with staff quarterly throughout the year

  • Socialize with customers and work with Club Manager to continue to grow our Wine Clubs

  • Proactive in identifying gaps in staffing and step in as a Tasting Room Associate or educator when needed

  • Ensure all items are entered into the POS and transactions are properly recorded

  • Maintain a clean environment for our guests by ensuring all SOPs are fulfilled each shift

  • Work closely with Events teams on both private and internal event execution

  • Work closely with Marketing teams on internal marketing, promotion awareness, educate staff on special promotions, and help execute with on-site marketing efforts.

  • Maintain a pleasant atmosphere and create good customer flow

  • Handle cash and enter nightly deposits and distribute tips

  • Ensure responsible service practices and maintain a safe environment for our employees and guests

  • Assist Marketing and Sales with the execution of external events and festivals, including conceptualization

  • Conduct interviews, scheduling of training and other onboarding tasks, this includes performance reviews for staff

  • Innovative in seeking areas of improvement, feedback and praise

  • Ensure all tasting experiences (Reserved Seated Tastings, Standing Tastings, etc.) are running smoothly with an emphasis on the customer experience and Club sign-ups and sales

  • Assist in planning and execution of public events, as well as, knowledge of all upcoming events

  • Email management on a daily basis, including responding to customer reviews (positive and negative) in a professional manner

  • Knowledge of our systems (i.e., Square, Xudle, Kitchen Display System, etc.) to manage any needed updates and training

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must be 21+ years of age

  • Available to work 40+hours per week including some nights and weekends

  • Must have strong email communication skills with ability to respond to emails in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service

  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask

  • An eye for marketing - the manager should have a keen eye on our spaces ensuring cleanliness, outdoor spaces are clean, well-maintained, and welcoming.

  • Must have a can-do attitude and be hands-on, able to jump in to get the job done.

  • Outgoing and inviting personality with a positive attitude with the ability to work with a diverse group of people

  • Working knowledge of the Google platform or be a quick and intuitive learner

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Ability to establish direction and delegate

  • Ability to lift 55 pounds, move cases of wine

  • Must be able to be on your feet for long periods of time, see and talk

Preferred Skills

  • 3+ years of management experience

  • Knowledge of Minnesota wine and industry experience

  • B.A. in Business, Hospitality or other related field
